When she was a young child, she was always creating something. Whether it was handmade jewelry, art or gifts for others, she loved to make things. Reaching adulthood, she decided to attend college and major in marketing. Receiving her associate's degree, her plans were to acquire a job in a related field, but even though she loves business and advertising, it seemed there was something missing...
In 1995, she decided to give painting a try. To her surprise, she finished two successful acrylic works and loved it. A friend of hers talked her into trying a watercolor class, and to this day it is her medium of choice, although, she does venture into acrylic, oil, altered art, collage, and mixed media. She still enjoys painting with them, but her main focus is watercolor. When she applied the water to the paper, the colors just come alive as they spread across it. You can't beat the brilliance of a watercolor painting.
Her favorite subject is the southern landscape. Most of her inspiration comes from Mississippi nature. There are just some things that stand out more than others. Currently, she is working on simple watercolor and ink illustrations, featuring the different characteristics of trees here in the south. Leaving the foreground and background paper white, the watercolors remain fresh and vivid. These have been one of the most popular subjects with her collectors.
Three years ago, she opened her online business named Shelley Roze, on the website Etsy.com. Therefore, her work has been obtained by collectors from across the U.S. to countries like Australia and the United Kingdom. In addition, her work has been featured in the publication Cloth, Paper, Scissors magazine, October 2009, and the special publication PAGES, in November 2011.
