Richard says "My work is inspired by contrasts:  contrasts of color, contrasts of shape, and contrasts of subject matter.  I feel that my work is also about teaching - showing and explaining the ordinary in extraordinary ways.

"Retaining the transparent integrity of watercolor is very important to me.  In doing so, I try to push the watercolor to its limits - darkest dark to lightest light.

"My goal in art is two-fold:  to make the most of the abilities that God has given me and to create art that captures my view of the world and is enhanced by my passion for life."
