With lustrous color and dynamic style, artist Cliff Speaks creates paintings that exude excitement, harmony and complexity. Inspired by artistic movements such as Abstract Expressionism, Cubism and Impressionism.
Speaks’ work eloquently displays an influence from these schools of art, while
infusing fresh life into their ideas with his own modern take on composition.
Speaks’ work showcases instruments and musicians and explores a merging of
musicality and painting. The paintings possess their own kind of rhythm in the
color choices and use of sinuous line. Cliff engages in a conversation of sorts
between music and art. His paintings are a continual exploration; as he states,
“to me a work of art is a temporary conclusion to an ongoing idea.”
A resident of Brandon, Mississippi, Cliff has great affection for southern
culture and imagery. He lives in Brandon with his wife Tanya, 2 kids Sophie and
Evan and Angel the Black Lab. He comes to painting from a background in graphic
design and has been painting professionally for nine years. His art has
appeared in galleries and exhibits in New York, Los Angeles, Mississippi and
most recently in New Orleans
He has done commissions for Three Doors Down and Pearl River Casino, as well as
a number of private commissions.
